We are glad to report that our friend Scott Forsyth is at home and recovering well! In case you didn’t know, he took a heavy wipeout on Thursday, (10.11.2018) that bruised his spinal column and fractured 2 vertebrae. Luckily, fellow surfers, Brad Miller and Forrest Marlow were nearby and got him to shore.

Alive, Thankful, and Discharged from Shands UF Medical Center.

In his own words, Scott states:

Thank you, the 911 surf reporter calling the emergency 911 and Brad Miller, Forrest Marlow, Mike Aldridge as well who are my surf angels and good samaritans, for helping me out of the water and assisting with my needs. I was partially but temporarily paralyzed when I was injured so I might have drowned without them! I also very much appreciate the surf community, friends and family for their thoughts and prayers on my behalf.

As I recall, I took a hard hit from the sand bottom directly on my forehead. The force caused a hard whiplash of my head backward. I fractured vertebrae C5 and C6 and also suffered spinal cord trauma, bruising, and swelling. However, on the very positive side my fractures were closed (vertebrae are still in their proper place) and the spinal cord injury is temporary (nerve pain was severe but is mild now and is anticipated to go away completely). I will wear a plastic 2 piece neck brace 24/7 for 8 weeks while I heal. I can’t drive and must take it easy during my recovery but just thankful to God for being alive and my injury not being worse. Praise God, each day is a gift and so is being able to surf. I am anticipating at this time that I may be able to go back in the line up in about 4 months.

Scott states: Get all the waves you can while I’m out of the water, when I get back, they are all mine! (laughs out loud)!
